Sail Bay is a large circular bay inside the Mission Beach Peninsula in San Diego’s Mission Bay. The sandy beach of Fanuel Park wraps the entire perimeter of Sail Bay from Santa Clara Point Recreation Center to Crown Point. Access to Sail Bay is from anywhere at the north end of Mission Beach Peninsula, Pacific Beach Drive, and Riviera Drive on Crown Point. Fanuel Street Park might be the easiest access point since it has a parking lot and restroom facilities too. At the intersection of Riviera Drive and Moorland Drive you’ll find the easiest access the area known as Riviera Shores Beach on Sail Bay. The Bayside Walk pathway makes it easy to stroll around Sail Bay and continue to other places on Mission Bay.
Fanuel Park on Crown Point Park is on the east side of Crown Point on Mission Bay in San Diego. This nice grass park has a sand beach with fire pit rings along its shores and a large flat sandy area at the south end. This area is used for beach volleyball tournaments and other special events. The park has a play area for kids, two basketball courts, and a boat launch. Adjacent to the north is a bird-watching area that includes Northern Wildlife Preserve and Kendall Frost Mission Bay Reserve. This is a popular water skiing area so boats will be passing by the Crown Point Beach especially in the summer months. Fiesta Island is across from the park and over that you can see the tall buildings of downtown San Diego in the distance. Crown Point Park is located at 3700 Crown Point Drive. There is are three large parking lots here so parking is rarely a problem. Nearby Campland on the Bay is a campground resort for RV’s and tent campers.
Fanuel Park, located at then end of Fanuel Street, south past Pacific Beach Drive. The perfect launching point into Sail Bay. Easy entry into the water and large grassy area to prep before and after paddling.
